Advent Activity + December Daily = Excitement
Last year I decided to try my hand at the hugely popular December Daily project. The idea behind this project is that you document the days leading up to Christmas. Some folks start the day after Thanksgiving and some folks, like me, start December 1. I LOVED this project and had all intentions of doing it again this year. Then November came around and I decided that I didn’t need anymore projects, especially the kind that documents my daily life. I didn’t want to toss the 25 Days of Christmas idea totally so I started looking into Advent Calendars. I noticed that a lot of people are straying from the traditional Advent Calendar, where you get a treat each day, and going for the Activity calendar, which replaces the treat with an activity. I thought about it and I knew that Aubrey was the perfect age for something like this.
I headed out to Michael’s Craft Store during the madness this weekend and I scooped up one of those 4.5×6.5 scrapbook paper pads. I also grabbed the matching elements and two packs of those teeny tiny, 2.5×4 inch, gift bags. I then planted myself in my craft room chair and got straight to creating. I will admit the thought of an entirely paper book overwhelmed me a little but in all honesty it turned out pretty decent.
What I decided to do is make each day a 2 page spread. On the right would be my layout that contains the envelope and inside the envelope would be that day’s activity. On the right I left a blank white page. My plan is to shoot a photo from that day and then add it to the album. This gives me an activity + a memory which equals HAPPINESS!
I cut each page down to 4×6 so that I can print the photo out and add it without having to do cropping or changing. I think this will make the book a little easier to keep up with.
The pages are held together with book rings and this makes it much easier to add my photos.
Here is a little peek at the cover and a few of the activity cards. I am super excited about starting this project and even more excited to see how Aubrey reacts to it. I did add a few digital elements – my cards and the numbers – I only did this because my paper stash is pretty pathetic.

Loved the look of this Shirley, we have an advent box display that we put a range of surprises behind each door – sweets, activities, see Mum or Dad for a surprise etc.

So awesome that you do that as well!! Do you love it, is it as much fun as I am hoping it will be?
Suzy I added my list to this post but you can google or check pinterest for hundreds more! Yes those bags are like little envelopes I found them in the gift wrapping sections and they come in all sizes. Thank you for reading

I have always avoided this project. I really like the way you have combined Advent activities and the December Daily idea. I might try it this year!

AJ I loved the project last year but wanted something that I didn’t have to maintain for this year. I hope having it all done in the beginning will help out a lot!
Leslie the cover is just scrapbook paper I picked up from Micheals. It comes as a 12×12 pack, a 4.5×6.5 pack and elements. I have some extra left over, 4.5×6.5, if it is the size you like I would be happy to pass it over to you!
My daughter is all about the nail polish so I thought it would be a fun mommy/daughter moment and if daddy doesn’t watch out he will get it also – hahahahaha!!

After seeing your spectacular Dec Daily album this morning at the Daily Digi, I immediately headed over to your site…what a treat!!! Loved your 2010 album and the 2011, too!!! Question, your 2011 cover….love that santa in a car….is that digital paper and if so,where can I purchase it please?
Such inspiration….love your prompts (some I’ve never read, but love like painting my daughter’s nail’s Christmas colors). Huge thank you!

This is a great idea! I’m doing a form of December Daily for the first time this year, using Sabrina’s 25 days of Christmas templates and a variety of digital kits. I would love to do some form of advent calendar, but my kids are so young (almost 3, 16 months, and 3 months) so it’s hard to find age-appropriate ideas, and I don’t have the money to buy one. I may do something super-simple like little envelopes (similar to what you used) and raid my stash for simple embellishments.
Here’s links to the Dec Daily pages I have ready so far:

I have pages 9-12 done too, but can’t show those yet cuz the kit hasn’t come out yet lol!!
Hopefully I’ll be able to get the rest done in the next few days!

Shirley,
.
Thanks for letting me know the adorable cover paper is from Michaels. I’m going to head there tomorrow…hope that have it in the small size. If not, I’ll be beginning you to send me a scan of that car paper and I’ll pay you (I’m making a small book to save on printing ink).
Love your inspiration and site. Huge THANK YOU!!!

I love this Shirley – what great idea and you’ve inspired me to do it also! OK so I never paper scrapped before but I’ve seen those pads of paper I think you are talking about here.
Your gift bags are the little “envelopes” you are putting your activities in? That’s such a great idea!
I subscribe to your blog in my reader – love it. You crack me up
Suzy
PS – I almost forgot to ask – did you make up these activities yourself or did you get some prompts/hints from somewhere – because THAT would be my roadblock right there – trying to think of 25 things to write on all those papers. Thanks!!!
